Excellent-level sequence: This exercise uses the same setup as last month's to work on 270-degree turns and sending to obstacles outside the jump box. To begin, use a lead-out pivot between 2 and 3 so the dog jumps 3 on your right. Make sure you push him out enough around the 270 that he doesn't cut into the box. To handle the 5-8 sequence, front cross between 5 and 6. Staying inside the box sets up an awkward line to the table.

Leave the table with the dog on your left. When he is going toward jump #10 slow down, turn your shoulders and call him. As soon as he is committed to jump 11 run forward and front cross after jump 12 to push him to the tunnel on your right. Front cross at the tunnel exit so that he is on your left to jump #14.

Open-level sequence: The simplest way to handle the opening is to run with the dog on your left and pull to the table. If you have a very fast dog that might go off-course over 6, or you want to practice your lead-outs, you could do a lead-out pivot between 2 and 3. Leave the table with the dog on your left and front cross on the landing side of #6 (a cross between 5 and 6 sets a line towards the 50 instead of jump #7). As the dog is approaching 7 slow down and call him, once he clears the bar turn your shoulders and call his name. Pick him up on your right after the tunnel and pull to the last two jumps.

Next month there will be an exercise on taking shortcuts to get into position for front crosses.
